CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF CALCIUM METABOLISM CLINICALLY USING CALCIUM- 47. PRELIMINARY NOTE (in French)
Using an isotope technique described by Rich in the United States in 1961, Ca/sup 47/ was administered by continuous intravenous irfusion for two hours and recorded continuously the variations in concentration of the tracer in venous blood samples. In this way it was possible to study the variations of the specific activity of the calcium and to obtain an indication of the size of the miscible calcium pool in the body. It was concluded that this method would be of practical interest to the study of calcium metabolism in clinical work. The study was concerned with cases of osteoporosis and osteomalacia before and after therapy with anabolic drugs and permitted observations to be made on the variations in the miscible calcium pool.
