The reactions of UF/sub 6/ with NaF and KF were carried out in C/sub 7/F/ sub 16/. The reaction with NaF resulted in NaUF/sub 7/ which is stable at room temperature but decomposes at 100 deg C in vacuum to give Na/sub 2/UF/sub 8/. Na/ sub 2/UF/sub 8/ in turn gives o ff UF/sub 6/ at 300 deg C to leave NaF. The reaction with KF resulted in KUF/sub 7/, which similarly decomposes to K/sub 2/UF/ sub 8/ at 100 deg C in vacuum.
