INVESTIGATIONS OF He(II) ROTATION NEAR /lambda/ POINT BY MEANS OF SECOND SOUND (in Russian)

Delayed stationary motion in transition from rotating He(I) to rotating He(II) (delayed Onsager-Feynman vortex) was studied using second sound scattering on the vortex. Measurements made at 2.15 deg K showed that the maximum second sound amplitude does not vary, conftrming the delayed vortex formation. Increased temperature (not above lambda ) and reduction to 2.15 deg reduces the second sound amplitude. At 2.09 deg K the second sound amplftude is attenuated about 20% from the initinl. The difference between the cooling time from the lambda point to 2.15 deg K in one case and to 2.09 deg K in the other determines the delay in vortex formation in the transition. The unconfirmed data indicate the delay time is of the order of 4 min at 2.15 deg K. (R.V.J.)
