An attempt is made to determine, in the beam of the elementary diffusion theory, the space-time distribution of the flux and currert density of neutrons, which from an infinite monochromatic plane source diffuse into a multilayer slab system. The system is considered to contain a finite or infinite number of cells, each consisting of two adjacent slabs of different materials. The mathematical formalism connected with the discrete coordinate method is briefly presented. The space-time distribution of the neutron flux and current density within the given system is studied on the basis of the elementary diffusion theory, neglecting the neutron finite velocity effects. The same problem is qualitatively discussed by including the effects of the neutrons finite velocity. (W.D.M.)
