TRANSISTORIZED POCKET TYPE RADIATION MONITOR (in German)

Journal Article · · Elektron. Rundschau
OSTI ID:4760056
A description is given of the application, properties, circuit, and constructional details of a battery-operated personal warning set that can be constantly carried without inconvenience because of its low weight and small size (pocket dosimeter). No operation of controls is required. The radiation inciding in a miniature Geiger tube becomes audible as a short 3-kc tone; the reception frequency is proportional to the intensity of gamma radiation. When the dose intensity reaches 50 mr/hr, the single acoustical pulses become a continuous sound. A high-efficiency d-c converter and a monostable flip-flop working into matched pairs of transistors result in extremely low current drain of about 0.8 ma so that the battery will last for 1 to 2 months continuous operation with null effect.
