PROTON COMPTON SCATTERING CROSS SECTION FROM 70-Mev THROUGH MESON THRESHOLD

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4759970
The differential photon-proton scattering cross section was measured at 70to 160 Mev at 70, 90, and 135 deg . An electron synchrotron was used as the x- ray source. Liquid H/sub 2/ was used as the scattering material, the cryostat for which is described. A total absorption Cherenkov counter served as the energy sensitive detector of the scattered photons. The results indicate that the scattering cross section has a minimum near the threshold for meson photoproduction and an unexpectedly large value at low energies. The differential photon-Be scattering cross section was also measured at 90 deg at 60 to 130 Mev. (auth)
