Compton scattering from the proton from 68 to 150 MeV

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:243524
Elastic photon scattering differential cross sections for the proton have been measured at scattering angles of 90{degrees} and 135{degrees}, using 68-102 MeV monochromatic (tagged) photons, and simultaneously 100-150 MeV bremsstrahlung photons at the tagged photon facility at Saskatchewan Accelerator Laboratory. Scattered photons were detected in two high resolution NaI spectrometers. The 135{degrees} cross section is sensitive to the difference of the electric and magnetic polarizabilities {alpha}{minus}{beta}, while the 90{degrees} cross section is sensitive to only the electric polarizability, {alpha}. Preliminary results for the polarizabilities {alpha}, {beta}, will be presented and compared to previous results and theoretical calculations.
