A reactor fuel element construction of the elongated, finned type is designed with coupling between the elements. The coupling comprises a flexible cable, one end fixed to one element and the other free to slide in a recess in the other element. When the coupled elements are lifted, a member at the freely sliding end of the cable comes into contact with a stop, whereby the load is transmitted to the cable. (D.L.C.)
