A fast reactor is designed with a control system which is actuated by a fall in the coolant pressure. Means for holding the fuel elements in the critical position against a bias towards a non-critical position is provided which is powered by the coolant flow. On failure of the coolant flow, the fuel elements are moved by gravity to noncriticality. (D.L.C.)
