The reactor is of compact construction by virtue of a novel multi-pass core design, and its reactivity lifetime is conservatively estimated at 52,275 Mwd or 3,33 calendar years of operation without fueling, the fuel elements are square in cross section and are confined within an egg-crate type lattice.
