BIOLOGICAL, CHEMICAL AND RADIOCHEMICAL STUDIES OF MARINE PLANKTON. Reference No. 63-4. Progress Report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4758861
Results are reported from biological, chemical, and radiochemical studies on marine plankton collected in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Guif of Mexico. Observations were made on the distribution of nutrient salts in sea water in relation to plankton populations. Measurements were made on the concentration of inorganic and total phosphorus, nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia. Data are included on metaboiism in the marine nitrifying bacterium Nitrosocystis oceanus and phosphorus metabolism in Phaeodactylum tricornutum. The nutrient cycle in relation to primary productivity in ocean waters was studied. (C.H.)
