CHANGES IN THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM OF DOGS WITH RADIATION SICKNESS CAUSED BY THE EFFECT OF URANIUM FISSION PRODUCTS (in Russian)

Investigations of the cardiovascular system in dogs subjected to the action of uranium fission products revealed that in the immediate postirradiation days there occur a deceleration of the pulse rate, decrease of the arterial pressure, and changes of the electrocardiogram. Disturbances in the cardiovascular system were greatest at the peak of the disease. The nature of electrocardiographic changes demonstrated that products of uranium fission provoke profound biochemical changes in the myocardium. The products can cause the development of coronarytrophic disorders. Changes in the cardiovascular system occurring under the influence of lethal doses of uranium fission products did not differ essentially from those due to the action of gamma- and x- irradiation. Only an absence of initial manifestations in response to the effect of these products was seen. (auth)
