"ANOMALOUS" DIFFUSION OF A RAREFIED PLASMA WITH A CURRENT IN A MAGNETIC FIELD (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Zh. Eksperim. i Teor. Fiz.
OSTI ID:4757454
It is shown that in the presence of a longitudinal field a rarefied plasma in a strong magnetic field is unstable with respect to waves of the drift type. This instability is similar to the current-convection instability of a plasma with finite conductivity, the only difference being that the collisions are replaced by Landau damping. Turbulent convection appearing as a result of such instability leads to anomalous diffusion of the plasma with a diffusion coefficient of the order of the Bohm coefficient. (auth)
