EXTENDING REACTOR TIME-TO-POISON BY PRE-SHUTDOWN POWER ALTERATIONS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4757202
Consideration was given to the extension of time-topoison by pre- shutdown power alterations which involve a minimum of lost reactor production. It was concluded that no direct solution to this problem is available. A preliminary investigation, with power altered in a step-wise manner, indicated that a possible criterion for optimizing the lost power production is to keep the xenon level at as high a level as possible during all stages of power alteration except the last. This approach is the basis of a computer code for the Bendix G- 20 computer, which generates a power pattern for a required time-to-poison. Results of applying this to various situations in the NRU reactor are given. (auth)
