RESEARCH ON APPLICATIONS OF KRYPTON 85. Quarterly Progress Report No. 3, April 1, 1962-June 30, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4756985
Work was continued on graft polymerization induced by radiation from krypton-85. The experimental conditions required for the polymerization of chlorotrifluoroethylene on natural rubber, and of acrylonitrile on polyethylene film were investigated. Krpton-85 was also used to induce polymerization of vinyl acetate. The reaction was carried out in the vapor phase at 1 atm. A 95% yield was obtained. Its physical properties are being evaluated. Radiation- induced polymerization of acetylene was carried out at high pressure. The physical properties of this polymer are also being evaluated. (auth)
