STEAM SEPARATION TECHNOLOGY QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORT, JUNE-SEPTEMBER 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4756823
The air-water facility which will be used to develop downcomer, upcomer, and cross-over type separators and to investigate carryunder in a natural circulation system without mechanical separators was put into operation earlier than anticipated. A series of tests were performed to provide information to be used in the detail design of experimerts to be performed in the air-water tank. The centrifugal separator development program is now in progress in the loop. A program was undertaken to correlate air-water and steam-water experiments. To obtain airwater void fraction data to compare with steara-water void fraction data from a previous program, a small auxiliary test apparatus was constructed and operated. These data were correlated and an equation was developed to permit the prediction of the void fraction in a bubbling two-phase mixture as a function of certain basic parameters. The comparison of experimental values with calculated values indicates the correlation is reasonably accurate. (auth)
