Title: LIQUID LEVEL HELIUM THERMOMETER

Journal Article · · Rev. Sci. Instr.
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1063/1.1717956· OSTI ID:4756669

A closed thermometer is described that contains a tube of He/sup 3/ or He/sup 4/ in liquid-vapor equilibrium. The temperature is calculated by measuring the volume of liquid originally inserted into the thermometer, and the change in the liquid level in the tube as the temperature is changed from a reference temperature to the unknown temperature. The temperature-vapor pressure characteristics of the liquid used must be taken into account in the calculation of the temperature. The behavior of this type of thermometer from 0.8 to 4.2 deg K is described. (T.F.H.)
