A METHOD OF PRODUCING STANDARD RADIOACTIVE SOURCES FOR CALIBRATING DOSIMETERS (in Polish)

Journal Article · · Nukleonika (Poland)
OSTI ID:4756411
A thin source of Sr/sup 90/ + Y/sup 90/ was purchased and measured for uniformity. The nonuniformity was about plus or minus 30%. It was then decided to improve the uniformity of such sources. Source thicknesses of 0.2 to 2 mg/cm/ sup 2/ were deposited on a thick plate of plexiglas (methyl methacrylate) by sedimentation. After drying, the plexiglas was exposed to a vapor of chloroform that softened the plexiglas and resulted in a bonding of the radioactive material to the plexiglas. The sources made in this way were Co/sup 60/, Sr/sup 90/ + Y/ sup 90/, Tl/sup 204/ and C/sup 14/. Subsequently, sources of Cs/sup 137/, U/sup 238/, an d Pu/sup 239/ were also made. The first series was deposited with a uniformity of 3 to 10%, depending on the isotope used. The source dimensions were 100 x 150 mm. (TTT)
