HALF-LIVES OF FIRST EXCITED 2$sup +$ STATES (150 /lt/ A /lt/ 190)

The half lives of the first excited 2+ states of the following even nuclei in the region 150 < A < 190 are measured with a fast time-to-height conventer: Sm/sup 152/; Gd/sup 154/; Gd/sup 156/; Dy/sup 160/. Er/sup 164/; Er/ sup 166/; Yb/sup 170/; Hf/sup 176/; Hf/sup 178/; W/ sup 182/; Os/sup 186/; and Os/ sup 188/ Experimental total internal-conversion coefficients for these transitions are calculated from the lifetime measurements and inelastic- scattering Coulomb-excitation B(E2) values. Comparisons are made with theoretical internal-conversion coefficients, which imply alpha /sub exp// alpha /sub theor./> 1 for these deformed nuclei by an average value of 12%. (auth)
