CONCERNING THE COULOMB EXCITATION OF $lambda$-PARTICLES (in Russian)

It is possible to use the Coulomb excitation mechanism to investigate the lifetime of the SIGMA /sup 0/-hyperon resulting from the reaction: LAMBDA + X yields SIGMA /sup 0/ + X, where X is any given nucleus. The Coulomb excitation matrix element, to a good approximation, does not depend on the isotopic spin for an isotopic doublet. A formula was therefore derived for the Coulomb excitation cross section for the doublet H/sup 3/ and He/sup 3/. From this formula an upper limit can be determined for the SIGMA /sup 0/-hyperon lifetime. (TTT)
