The possibility of measuring the partial widths of radiative decays of hyperon resonances of the 3/sup +//2 decuplet by means of Coulomb excitation of the octet hyperons is studied. The expected contributions from the strong and electromagnetic interactions in the coherence region to the cross sections for hyperon excitation on heavy nuclei and /sup 4/He nuclei are estimated. The angular distributions of the particles in the reactions ..sigma../sup -/+A..--> sigma../sup -/(1385)+A and ..lambda..+A..--> sigma../sup 0/(1385)+A are analyzed for the purpose of determining the angular range where the background conditions are most favorable for distinguishing the electromagnetic mechanism of the hyperon excitation process.
