Radioactivity in the Surrounding of the BER During 1961; RADIOAKTIVITAT IN DER UMGEBUNG DES BER IM JAHRE 1961

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4755856
The results of measurements of fission product and natural radioactivity in air, rain, surface and ground water and of the intensity of the environmental BETA - and gamma -radiation in Berlin-Wantnsee during 1961 are summarized. Following the nuclear weapon tests in the USSR, beginning in September 1961, the fission product activity in air and rain rose for more than an order of magnitude. On account to the fallout of fission products the environmental gamma -radiation during October to December 1961 was about 30% higher than the natural background. The operation of the reactor and radiochemical laboratories caused no detectable increase of activity or radiation in the surrounding. (auth)
