THE EFFECT OF UNITHIOL ON THE RATE OF RESORPTION OF SUBCUTANEOUSLY INJECTED POLONIUM

White male rats 150 to 200 g in weight were divided into two groups. One group of rats was given 100 mg of unithiol per kg body weight two times a day, and the other group served as controls. The polonium was injected in the thigh of the back leg at a dose of 0.01 mc/kg of body weight. The content of polonium in the body of the rat and at site of injection was determined at 3 and 5 hours, and on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 14th, 15th, 30th, 43rd, and 60th day after injection of the polonium. Without the unithiol treatment, 38% of the Po is absorbed into the organism in 3 hours, 50% in 5 hours, 70% in 5 days, and 80% in 7 days. With the unithiol treatment, the rate of Po absorption is More rapid. The absorption of Po into the organism was 86% after 3 hours. The administration of unithiol 7 days after the injection of the Po had no effect on the absorption of Po into the organism from the site of injection. Autoradiographs taken at the site of Po injection showed that unithiol promoted the adsorption of Po into the organism from the site of injection. (TTT)
