SEPARATION OF Cs$sup 137$ AND Sr$sup 90$ FROM A MIXTURE OF OLD FISSION PRODUCTS BY ELECTROPHORESIS ON PAPER (in Italian)
Some results obtained in the separation of Cs/sup 137/ and Sr/sup 90/ from a mixture of fission products are described. Work was done on the following points: choice of the aptest electrolyte; determination of the band mobility; and study of the effects of temperature. The obtained results permit one to conclude that after 30 minutes with electric fields of 50 volt/cm it is possible to separate pure Cs/sup +/ and Sr/sup 2+/ from a mixture of fission products. But good separations are obtainable also in 15 minutes. Increasing the temperature raises the migration rate, but the bands widen notably and therefore a longer migration is necessary in order to get purer products. On the whole there is no gain of time. Considerable advantages were not obtained in practice by working at temperatures lower than room temperature. (auth)
