An account is given of monitoring activities in the Pacific Islands during the series of tests of nuclear weapons that started in the Christmas Island area on April 26, 1962. In addition, measuremerts of total beta acti vity in air filters and rain samples at Christchurch and levels of strontium90 in New Zealand rain and milk are given. While the re-. port on routine observations at New Zealand stations is confined to the period ending on June 30, 1962, the account of monitoring activities in the Pacific area covers the period immediately preceding the resumpti on of the weapon tests in the Pacific to the latest results available up to the end of October 1962.
