ARGON-HELIUM SCINTILLATION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4752080
ABS>The scintillation of liquid argon and gaseous helium was investigated. Precise temperature control and care in purification were required. Alpha and gamma sources were used. A variety of mixture ratios of argon and helium were tried. The scintillators were found to be insensitive to gamma rays relative to alphas. Scintillations were not detected in liquid argon but only in the gas. Neutron 4 pi spectroscopy with these scintillating gasses is discussed. (auth)
