POLARIZATION OF PROTONS IN ELASTIC SCATTERING BY O$sup 16$ AND C$sup 1$$sup 2$ (in French)

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The polarization of protons elastically scattered from O/sup 16/ and C/ sup 12/ was measured at a laboratory scattering angle of 51.5 deg and bombarding energies between 3.76 and 4.65 Mev. The double-scattering method was used, i.e., protons polarized by scattering from carbon were analyzed by scattering from carbon and oxygen. The measurements were compared with the predictions of phase shift analyses of elastic-scattering angular distributions. The results on O/sup 16/ suggested levels of spin and parity 3/2- and 3/2 + at excitation energies 4.60 and 4.97 Mev, respectively, in the compound nucleus F/sup 17/. (auth)
