Data are tabulated on estimates of total-body cesium in Japanese people during 1960, 1961, and 1962. Examination of the distribution of stable Cs in the human body and diet provided a simple means of estimation of the total-body load of Cs137 irrespective of K concentration or the Cs unit under equilibrium or near equilibrium conditions. Examination of the distribution of stable Cs in the human body revealed the ratios of Cs and K differ in various tissues. It is suggested that a correction factor must be used when estimates of Cs137 are based on K concentration. A means of estimation of the whole-body load of Cs137 is described in which a body weight of 56 kg is assumed as average for Japanese adults. The concentration of Cs137 in mu mu c/g of fresh muscle is multiplied by 38 to give the total-body load in m mu c. This method is practical for autopsy material.
