HEAT TRANSFER TO A GAS AT HIGH TEMPERATURE. Technical Report No. 247-1

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4750106

Local and average convective heat transfer coefficients are measured ior N/sub 2/, He, and CO/sub 2/ flowing turbulentiy through electricaliy heated, smooth, round tubes. Data are given for Reynolds numbers of 3,200 and 48,000, surface temperatures of 300 to 2300 deg F, gas temperatures below 1850 deg F, and heat fluxes up to 172,000 Btu/hr/ft/sup 2/. The Nusselt, Reynolds, and Prandtl numbers for the flows considered are related empirically, for both the local and average heat transfer. The accuracy of the empirical equations derived is estimated as 12%, (T.F.H.)
