BS>The characteristics of the various types of radiation detection instruments are briefly summarized to indicate the specific use of each. The development of the bubble chamber is reviewed. Then the physics of the heavy liquid chambers are discusaed and some examples of its use are given. The factors considered in the selection of the chamber parametera are reviewed, and the construction problems are considered. (J.S.R.)
