The therapeutic and protective effects of olive oil, sunflower oil, linseed oil, and peanut oil were investigated on mice exposed to 690 and 640 r whole-body irradiation and on rats exposed to 735 r. The therapeutic effect of olive oil and its protective effect when injected 24 hrs before the irradiation were confirmed. The other oils had a similar effect when injected before irradiation, The mechanism of the protective effect is discussed. (J.S.R.)
