INELASTIC $pi$$sup -$-p INTERACTIONS AT 7 Gev

The angular distribution of pions observed in two-prong pi /sup -/-p interactions in emulsion was investigated. It is shown that pi /sup -/ mesons observed in interactions of the type pi /sup -/ + p yields p + pi /sup -/ + k pi /sup o/ (k = 1,2,...) were collimated forward in the pi - pi center-of-mass system. This result indicated that a certain fraction of the observed events corresponded to elastic pi - pi -scattering having diffraction character. (auth)
