NEW PROCESS FOR ISOLATION OF Fr-223 ON SYNTHETIC ULTRAMARINE BY USE OF A SIEVE EFFECT (in German)
An ion-sieve effect on a synthetic ultramarine caused a decrease of the exchange of the alkali-metal elements from sodium to francium depending on the bare ionic radii Ac/sup 227/ was strongly adsorbed by ultramarine together with Th/sup 227/ Po/sup 215/, and Pb/sup 211/ whereas Tl/sup 207/ and Ra/sup 223/ were eluted together with Fr/sup 223/. From this eluate Ra/sup 223/ was adsorbed on a BaSO/sub 4/-silica bed which was coupled to the ultramarinecolumn. By this technique it was possible to separate Fr/sup 223/ with a high yield of approximates 90% in the short time of 2 to 3 min. Any remaining part of short- lived Tl/sup 207/ may be eliminated by a Tl plus or minus precipitation, but this procedure does not take more than 3 min. It was found that even after 8 months, Fr/sup 223/ could still be milked repeatedly from the radiation resistant ultramarine column without any change in the yield. The K/sub D/-values of francium on ultramarine are reported together with those from the alkali and alkaline earth ions, and Y/sup 3+/ and Sc/sup 3+/. Additionally the K/sub D/- values of Fr were determined on Zirconium phosphate, tungstate, and molybdate and compared with the corresponding CsK/sub D/-values. (auth)
