EFFECT OF THE U.S. HIGH-ALTITUDE NUCLEAR EXPLOSION ON RADIO WAVE PROPAGATION
The effects of ionzation, caused by the nuclear test explosion about 200 mi over Johnston Island on July 9, 1962, on radiowave propagation were measured in Australia. Signals of the very low-frequency transmitter located near Seattle, Wash., and signals from a transmitter located in the Panama Canal Zone were monitored. The signal strength dropped suddenly but recovered after about 15 min, to drop again at about 1900 hr, followed by a steady rise. (C.H.)
