HOW RADIO CAN PLOT HIGH-ALTITUDE NUCLEAR BLASTS

Recordings made during the high-altitude nuclear explosions over Johnston Island from July to Nov. 1962, shed new light on the electromagnetic waves associated with nuclear blasts. Hydrodyramic wave theory is used to explain the main part of the signal from a scope. The results recorded for five blasts are described briefly. The scopes were triggered about 30 mu sec before the arrival of the main spike of the electromagnefic pulse. (D.L.C.)
