EXTENDING THE RANGE OF THE "FRICKE" DOSIMETER UP TO 10$sup 6$ RADS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4748366

Two alternative methods to extend the upper range of the Fricke'' dosimeter continuously to 10/sup 6/ rads are presented. Dosimeter solutions containing higher Fe/sup 2+/ concentrations are irradiated either while bubbled with oxygen or oxygen-free. For the oxygenated system G(Fe/sup 3+/) values of 16.1 and 15.5 are used for 5 mM and 20to 50 mM Fe/sup 2+/ solutions respectively. A G(Fe/sup 3+/) value of 8.0 was determined for the de-aerated system which appeared to be independent of Fe/sup 2+/ concertration over the range 2 to 50 mM. Both methods are simple and the reproducibility is better than plus or minus 2%. (auth)
