INVESTIGATION OF THE LOW ENERGY GAMMA RAYS IN Xe$sup 13$$sup 1$

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4748212
Angular correlation measurements were performed on the 80-284 kev and 177-364 kev cascades in Xe/sup 1312/. The 80-284 kev directional correlation measurement confirmed the isotropic nature of this correlation, while the A/sub 2/ and A/sub 4/ Legendre polynomial coefficients were measured as 0.341 plus or minus 0.107 and 0.179 plus or minus 0.165 respectively for the 177364 kev cascade. An attempt to measure the correlation between the 156-210 kev gamma rays failed, as the major coincidences in the energy region was found to be due to scattering. The branching ratio of the 80-284 kev and 156210 kev cascades is estimated as at least 50 : 1 and not 5 : 1 as previously reported. (auth)
