PREPARATION OF THIN FILMS, SOURCES, AND TARGETS

Journal Article · · Ann. Rev. Nucl. Sci.
Methods of preparation and properties of thin films, sources, and targets are reviewed. Most of the thin films currentiy being used are plastic, but Al, C, B, aluminum oxide, and siiicon monoxide films are discussed briefly. Methods of estimating film thickness and rendering the film conducting are summarized. Techniques described for preparation of thin sources and targets include evaporation of a solution or suspension, electrospraying, vacuum evaporation, electrodeposition, and ion acceleration. Data on the following are summarized in tables: preparation of radioactive sources by vacuum deposition, elements that have been deposited electrolytically to make radioactive sources and targets, and elements from which targets have been made by distillation in vacuo.
