An ionization gage of the Bayard-Alpert type is designed for measuring very high vacuum. The gage differs from other gages in that the shielding envelope for the ion collector filament is made out of a metal or glass with a metal coating, rather out of glass alone. Thus, variations in the pressure reading due to charge changes on the envelope can no longer occur. (M.L.C.)
