PARTICLE DETECTORS. PART 2

Journal Article · · Instr. Pract.
OSTI ID:4746125
Signal and noise levels in the human eye are discussed. In the detection of particles, four questions should be answered; the type of particles detected, number arriving at the detector per unit time, particle energy, and time of arrival at the detector. The principle of gas multiplication is discussed, and the general characteristics of detectors working in the three regions of gas multiplication are examined: ionization chambers, proportional detectors, and Geiger-Muller counters.
