DEPOSITION OF VARIOUS RADIOACTIVE ELEMENTS ON THE SURFACE OF THE PLATINUM ANODE

Journal Article · · Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry (England) Merged with Inorg. Nucl. Chem. Lett. to form Polyhedron
The anodic deposition of Tl/sup 204/, Ce/sup 144/, Y/sup 90/, Yb/sup 175/ , Pr/sup 143/ Pm /sup 147/, and Ho/sup 166/ was investigated as a function of time, with special consideration of Tl/sup 204/ and Ce/sup 144/. These studies show that when these atoms are anodically deposited, a plot of the equilibrium distribution coefficient as a function of the applied voltage passes through a maximum. The number of active centers on the surface of the platinum anode was determined for the anodic deposition of Tl/sup 204/ and Ce/sup 144/ by the isotherm method. A plot of the number of active centers as a function of the applied voltage also gave a curve with a maximum. The effect of hydrogen ion concentration was also investigated and a linear relation between the pH and the logarithm of the number of active centers found. rnvestigation of the deposition of Tl/sup 204/ on platinum from a solution containing hydrogen peroxide shows that the chemisorbed oxide layer, which develops on the platinum anode, plays an important role in the anodic deposition.
