Electrolytic separation of radioactive ions (Ce/sup 144/, Pr/sup 146/, Y/ sup 90/, Yb/sup 175) using asymmetrical electrode systems was investigated on a platinum anode. From measurements on the oxide produced by a single kind of ion, it was established that at best, only one monomolecular surface layer can evolve at the anode. It was further found from distribution coefficients that the platinum activation surface changes with pH values. On the basis of research results a chromatographic process with electrolysis was used for separating carrier-free radioactive atoms. A chromatogram was attained only with the help of a polarized platinum powder anode. For example, the separation of Sr/sup 90/, Y/sup 90/, Pr/sup 144/, and Ce/sup 144/ was accomplished from dilute solutions of nitrohydrochloric acid. (Atomdokumentation, 4 No. 15, Dec.
