PRECISE MEASUREMENT OF THE K-SHELL INTERNAL CONVERSION COEFFICIENT OF THE 344-kev, E2 TRANSITION IN Gd$sup 15$$sup 2$

BS>History of work on internal conversion coefficients and surveys of theory and experimental methods involved precede description of the coincidence counter built for these latest experiments. Measurement of the K-shell internal conversion coefficient of the 344-kev E2 transition in Gd/sup 152/ yields a value of 0.0283 plus or minus 0.0008 that disagrees unaccountably with theoretical calculations, but agree with other measurements. The value obtained for the 122- kev transition agrees well with theory, and values for the 123- and 87-kev E2 transitions in Gd/sup 154/ and Dy/sup 160/ are also included. (73 references). (D.C.W.)
