This patent relates to a device utilizing electrostatic fields for splitting the high energy ion beam of a particle accelerator into two separate beams. Many accelerator targets cannot utilize the full available beam current, and thus two such targets can be bombarded simultaneously if the beam is divided. The apparatus comprises a long center plate disposed along the center of the beam between a pair of long deflection plates disposed one on each side of the beam. Intense, oppositely directed electric fields are established between each of the deflection plates and the center plate causing the beam to split longitudinally. Each beam portion can then be individually directed to separate targets. (AEC)
