A NEW METHOD FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF THE VELOCITY AND ELECTRIC CONDUCTIVITY OF A PLASMA (in German)

The determination of the conductivity of plasma and the radial velocity of the charge carriers in a linear pinch discharge is not possible with the usual load probes alone. Therefore a probe was developed that permits the product of the conductivity and velocity to be measured. This occurs in principle by the determination of the current which originates from the deflection of the moving charge carriers in an auxiliary magnetic field. Measurements on linear pinch discharges show good agreement with the values to be expected from calculations and optical measurements. Combined measurements with the probe described and with load probes and simultaneous recording of the transient pattern of the total current and the imposed voltage yields all magnitudes necessary for the electrodynamic description of the linear pinch effect (tr-auth)
