A gas Cherenkov counter filled with freon at atmospheric pressure is described that is able to discriminate fast electrons against pions and muons. The counter was tested in a 400 Mev/c negative beam from Saturn. Its efficiency was computed assuming a Poisson distribution for the emission of photoelectrons and the curves are compared with the experimental result. (auth)
