An improved process for sheathing cluster-type reactor fuel elements is given which prevents the drawing of the sheath sheets with consequent variation in the sheath thickness. The process comprises placing a flexible support between the sheath sheets so that lateral displacemert of the fuel rods during the forming process is possible, and removing the support after the forming process. The flexible support may comprise a deformable but almost uncompressible substance contained between the extremities of the rods, or a number of metallic wires stretched longitudinally inside hollow rods.
