EVALUATION OF BETA RADIATION AS A HYDROGENATION CATALYST. Quarterly Technical Status Report No. 2, June 1, 1962-August 31, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4738837

Thirteen reference runs without radiation were completed, to supply a basis of comparison for the effect of radiation on hydrogenation reactions at high temperatures and pressures. Methylnaphthalene, biphenyl, and coal extract were hydrogenated with a contact catalyst and no catalyst at two different temperatures. A 90-curie internal source of Sr/sup 90/ has been installed in the reactor. A radiation dose rate of 0.98 x 10/sup 6/ rad/hr is present inside the reactor. Radiation processing tests of hydrogenation of the same materials are about to proceed. (auth)
