The transfer of Ca/sup 45/, U/sup 233/, Np/sup 237/, Pu/sup 239/, Am/sup 241/, and Cm/sup 244/ from plasma to milk following a single intravenous dose was studied in mature sheep. The rates of plasma clearance of the radionuclides in decreasing order were U/sup 233/, then Cm/sup 244/, Am/sup 241/, and Ca/sup 45/ grouped together, followed by Pu/sup 239/ and Np/sup 237/. Plasma concentration of U/sup 233/, Am/sup 241/, and Cm/sup 244/ showed an initial decline followed by a slightly increased concentration at 7 hr and then a continuous decline for the remainder of the 10-day study. The plasma concentration of Np/sup 237/ at l hr was less than that noted at 2 and 4 hr post- injection. On the basis of their milk: plasma ratio, the radionuclides were placed in three groups: Ca/sup 45/ with a ratio of 10 to 40; Cm/sup 244/ and Am/ sup 241/ with ratios of 2 to 5; and U/sup 233/, Np/sup 237/, and Pu/sup 239/ with ratios of 0.02 to 0.15.
