Case studies are presented that demonstrate the use of Sr/sup 85/ and photoscanning in the localization of metastatic bone lesions before any changes were evident in roentgenograms. It is pointed out that bone decalcification must reach about 50% before it is evident on x-ray film. Strontium-85 is shown to be well suited for photoscanning since a single gamma photon of 0.51 Mev is emitted during its decay by electron capture to stable Rb/sup 85/. The material was admistered intravenously, 50 mu c to adults and 20 mu c to patients under 20 years of age. The estimated total-body dose to a standard man is 0.325 rads and the bone dose is 2.28 rads. (C.H.)
